Turkish folk music artist and researcher Erdal Güney was sentenced to 11 months and 20 days of imprisonment due to insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with his song, which involves the words, “my dear father.” The court deferred the announcement of the verdict. The verdict will be abated in case Güney does not repeat the same offense within the five-year probation period.
In another lawsuit against Güney due to the committing the same offense publicly, this time against Bilal Erdoğan, the artist was sentenced to 1960 TL judicial fine.
